Melamine-impregnated decorative paper is the key surfacing material for melamine-faced boards. It is made by saturating decorative paper (often kraft-backed décor prints) with melamine‑formaldehyde resin and hardener, then drying and storing in moisture‑protected packaging, typically at ≤ 60% RH and around 20 °C for best shelf life (about three months)
During pressing, this decorative melamine paper bonds permanently with the board substrate (particle board, MDF, plywood), yielding abrasion-resistant, durable, and decorative surfaces. It may be single- or double-sided and is offered in various thicknesses and textures.
